At Pro Patria Coffee, we are passionate about crafting the perfect cup of coffee and bringing warmth to a soul, which has increased the demand for our delicious, quality coffee! Now, we’re taking the next big step in our journey—building our very own coffee roastery! Come behind the scenes as we showcase every phase of the build and share our excitement (and challenges) along the way. From the foundation being laid to the aroma of freshly roasted beans, here’s a glimpse into how we’re turning our dream into a reality so we can continue to serve you!

Phase 1: The Foundation of Our Coffee Roastery

Laying the Groundwork

The first step in our roastery build was deciding on the perfect location. This wasn’t easy. We tried to find an area that could accommodate a commercial roaster and also serve as a location people could gather comfortably, debrief, and find some peace. Not many places could offer that without the high price of commercial real estate. We know location is everything and after months of searching, we realized we already had the perfect place! What better place to build our roastery than where the idea initially started-on a front porch. While this isn’t exactly “on the front porch” of our home, the building is on a quiet piece of property overlooking beautiful fields (only steps away from our own front porch); and will boast it’s own unique “front porch” feel of the Cariboo region.  The new building is ideal for crafting the best artisan coffee using the finest beans and will also serve as  a welcome hub to gather with black gold always brewing.

Phase 2: Choosing the Right Equipment

Selecting Roasting Equipment

Choosing the right equipment is crucial for crafting high-quality, large-batch coffee and allows us to meet the growing demand of our new and existing client base. We’ve partnered with industry-leading suppliers to bring in a state-of-the-art roasting machine: The Diedrich IR-24S. This machine will allow us to fine-tune our roasts and create a consistent taste that meets our exacting standards. She is a beauty and we’re excited to see her set up and in all her glory in our new roastery! We have yet to christen this lovely piece with a name fitting of this endeavour (stay tuned)!

Huge shout-out to Jeff from Island Sky Advising for helping us find and get this roaster! He has also been instrumental in helping to grow and establish our business endeavours.

Phase 3: The Build-Out

Construction Begins

The excitement is building—literally! Construction is now in full swing, and all hands are on-deck as we work towards transforming the space into a fully functional coffee roastery-we’re paying attention to every detail from the functional design to ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere that reflects Pro Patria Coffee’s core values. This space will showcase all that makes our country great-the people who have served and continued to serve our communities. Check out the beautiful new doors thanks to Quesnel Door Shop {top-notch service}. It has been a long and arduous road, but we are almost there! We even got our boy involved in trenching the gas line.

Community Involvement

We’re excited to bring this endeavour to life and share it with all of you!  As we move forward with the build, we’re inviting the community to be a part of the process. Follow us on social media for live updates, and don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello if you’re in the area. We want this space to feel like home for coffee lovers in Quesnel and beyond. Stay tuned for our grand opening in the Spring 2025!
